Posted on July 14, 2023

The forecast continues to indicate an increase in daily high temperatures starting today.  National Weather Service Sacramento reports the Excessive Heat Warning for elevations below 4500 feet and a Heat Advisory above 4500 feet are on track for this weekend, 7/15 through 7/16.  Some valley locations will still see triple-digit high temperatures on Monday, 7/17, but generally, Heat Risk will drop to Moderate.  Cooler lows are expected early Tuesday; high temperatures will also trend down, reaching near normal to below normal Wednesday.

Support Services:

  1. There are resources available throughout Placer County this weekend related to the upcoming extreme heat event, which can be found on the ReadyPlacer Current Incidents Page.
  2. 211 is available to provide information and assist those needing additional support during the heat with resources.  Those that may need more support than can be provided by 211 will be referred to our Health and Human Services team.  We encourage all our partners to help promote 211.
  3. Placer County will keep two of its libraries open this weekend to help residents stay out of the heat in the areas forecast to experience extreme HeatRisk Index conditions (see attached graphic).  The Foresthill Library and the Colfax Library will be open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday (generally closed on Sundays) to provide air-conditioned spaces to escape the heat.
  4. The Placer Operational Area EOC will be on Extended Watch Status over the weekend to monitor for concurrent or compounding conditions (such as extended power outages) if additional response activities are warranted.
