How does the Sheriff’s Office respond to traffic violations or traffic problems in the Town limits?
The Sheriff’s Office provides a full-time traffic deputy to respond to problem areas or traffic complaints, but any deputy assigned to the Loomis station can address traffic issues or violations they observe. The Sheriff’s Office also conducts targeted traffic enforcement in areas where they receive complaints or feel additional enforcement is needed.
What is the number one traffic violation in the Loomis area?
Currently, the most frequent violations occurring are speeding and failure to fully stop at stop signs. Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies actively perform enhanced education and enforcement when they see these violations occur.
What has the Sheriff’s Office done to address speeders and people who ignore the S Walnut/Taylor Road crosswalk at this location?
The Taylor Road and S Walnut Road intersection had a high number of stop sign violations which created a serious safety issue with street crossing. The Town and the Sheriff’s Office collaborated to reduce violations.
The Town installed delineators at the intersection for better stop sign visibility. Deputies participated in enhanced education and enforcement. At the beginning of the Sheriff’s enhanced education and enforcement actions, they observed the intersection to watch traffic patterns. Deputies saw only a handful of vehicles completely stop at the stop sign. The Sheriff’s Office then focused patrol on that intersection and over a 5-week period, deputies conducted 111 traffic stops and cited 76 drivers. Since the enhanced education and enforcement activities and the Town installed the delineators, the violations have decreased. Deputies continue to monitor the intersection and will continue making traffic stops when violations occur.
What are Loomis’ most troublesome traffic spots/intersections/roads?
The Sheriff’s Office can target specific areas for enhanced traffic enforcement either by an increase in complaints about traffic issues, or when an increase in accidents in a specific area shows a need for enhanced enforcement.
Currently the neighborhoods east of Taylor Road, especially Walnut Street, Oaks Street, Magnolia Street, Callison Street and Circle Drive/S Holly Street experience an elevated level of traffic issues. Stop sign and speeding violations are the most frequent traffic problems.
In addition, the neighborhoods around King Road, Webb Street, Margaret Drive, and Francis Drive have also expressed concern over the speed of drivers, stop sign violations, etc. Deputies have been performing enhanced education and enforcement to help lessen these violations.
What is the Sheriff’s office doing to slow down drivers to protect pedestrians, especially children going to and from school?
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office continues to work with the town, schools, residents, and business collaboratively to identify areas where there are driving issues that threaten the safety of citizens and other motorists. They perform high-visibility patrols and conduct traffic stops as necessary. If residents have complaints or concerns about driving patterns in a specific area, please contact the South Placer Substation at (916) 652-2400.
