CalRecycle Grants

Rubberized Pavement Grant Program

The California Department of Resources, Recycling, and Recovery (CalRecycle) administers a Rubberized Pavement Grant Program that is designed to promote the use of recycled-content street resurfacing products derived from California-generated waste tires.

In January 2023, the Town of Loomis was successful in obtaining a grant for up to $250,000 from CalRecycle to resurface streets with an asphalt rubber chip seal, at a grant reimbursement rate of $1.00 per square yard of resurfacing completed.

The Town intends to complete this resurfacing work over two years.  The first year of work was completed in October 2023, and resurfaced approximately 6.5 miles of residential streets, and 1.2 miles of Sierra College Boulevard with an asphalt rubber chip seal.  This resulted in a reimbursement to the Town of $149,000.  As part of this first year’s effort, approximately 8,940 California Waste Tires were diverted from the waste stream.
